Seattle Gun Sales Tax is a Failure as Gun Violence rises!

Gun.rights.group_.calls_.Seattle.gun_.tax_.a.failure.as_.shootings.climb_As laughable as most gun control measures are, the Seattle Gun Sales tax is a total failure. At $25.00 a gun and almost $0.05 cents per round of ammunition, the gun sales tax concocted up by Seattle City Councilman Tim Burgess, is doing more harm than good.

The Bill was passed very quickly in 2016, and was supposed to deter, even reduce gun violence drastically in the Seattle area.

Seattle City Councilman Tim Burgess introduced the tax in 2015.The measure easily passed and took effect January 1, 2016. The bill was gussied up and spit shined, then thrust upon the citizens of Seattle as the “latest and greatest”; I imagine much like a carnival barker would have done just to get people into a sideshow attraction. But since the tax took effect, the costs of gun violence have only risen in the city as the crime continues to surge.

Comparing the first five months of 2017 with the same period before the gun tax went into effect, reports of shots fired are up 13 percent, the number of people injured in shootings climbed 37 percent and gun deaths doubled, according to crime statistics from the Seattle Police Department according to Fox News.

The tax has apparently brought in much less than city leaders projected it would. In selling his gun tax to the public, Burgess predicted it would generate between $300,000 and $500,000 annually. The money would be used to study the root causes of gun violence in hopes of reducing the costs to taxpayers.

Seattle officials refuse to say how much the tax brought in the first year, only giving the number “under $200,000.00” But Gun Rights Advocates who are suing Seattle for the exact amount think it is far less than that, and probably closer to the tune of $100,00.00 or less.

With Gun Dealers in the Seattle area packing up and moving to other towns outside the reach of the Liberal Anti-Gun law, those that have remained; are in dire straits having had to lay employees off.

Mike Coombs, owner of Outdoor Emporium, the last large gun dealer left in Seattle, told Fox News that storewide sales are down 20 percent while gun sales have plummeted 60 percent.

“I’ve had to lay off employees because of this,” Coombs said. “It’s hurting us, it’s hurting our employees.”

Employees at the Big 5 sporting goods stores in Seattle also report anemic gun sales. But there’s evidence Seattleites are just going outside the city to buy their guns. Coombs also owns a gun shop in the nearby city of Fife wheresales are described as flourishing.

According to Fox News’ interview with Coombs he is saying that the entire plan is to drive gun stores out of Seattle for good. “What they’re trying to do is get gun stores out of the city,” said Coombs, 48, whose Outdoor Emporium store operates in the shadow of Safeco Field and boasts of having “the largest selection of outdoor related products at affordable everyday warehouse pricing.”

Longtime customers have told Coombs they simply go outside the city now to buy firearms and ammunition rather than pay the tax, which he blames for the layoffs of two workers so far this year.

“We feel that, basically, a crackpot politician was trying to buttress his ‘progressive’ credentials and we got run over,” owner Sergey Solyanik told MyNorthwest.com.

While the Liberal City Council of Seattle tries to defend, deny and ignore their failed attempt to curb gun violence within their borders using gun control; it would seem their citizens and police force are in for a long haul.
