Homeowners fight shooting range in their neighborhood

Several southern Ouachita Parish residents are up in arms over the construction of a shooting range in their community.

Residents along Moore Road want the Ouachita Parish Police Jury to muzzle the operation. Late last week parish officials were notified the owners of the property had started construction without proper building permits. Code enforcement stopped worked and issued citations for construction without proper permits.

Though the work is expected to resume once all requirements are met to proceed.

Rev. James Johnson and members of his neighborhood asked the Police Jury prior to construction to deny the permit.

Johnson’s biggest concerns include the safety of people living near an outdoor shooting range and the impact on drainage in a flood zone.
