NRA protects rights from clutches of politicians

NRA

I pen this letter out of frustration over the misguided debate regarding firearms and the people in Washington, D.C., who have the power to remove more rights from the citizens of this country.

They do this by chipping away at one of the most sacred parts of the Constitution: the Second Amendment.

It has become a central argument from the liberal crowd that semiautomatic weapons, specifically rifles, should be banned. And these determined partisans will not let facts get in the way of their intended agenda.

For example: The semiautomatic weapons in question are not military assault weapons. Calling them such is akin to saying an apple is also an orange.According to FBI data, rifles actually are used less than other types of guns in homicides.

In 2010, crime statistics showed handguns to be the most favored weapon type for homicides, having been used 6,009 times. The rifle, by contrast, was used 358 times. As a matter of fact, hands, fists or feet were used in more murders than the rifle: 745 times.

The assault-weapons ban that was in place from 1994 to 2004 did not stop the mass killings that took place at Columbine.Just look at Chicago, with its high murder rate and where it is virtually impossible for a resident to own and carry a firearm for protection, and one can get a good example of what gun control does. It turns unarmed, law-abiding citizens into victims.
