Pennsylvania mayors want crackdown on illegal guns

After the horrible murder of Pennsylvania police officer Bradley Fox and the subsequent arrest of a Philadelphia man for illegally selling the gun that killed him, several mayors are calling for a crackdown on straw purchasers:

As mayors, we witness how violence devastates not only the victims of crime, but whole families and communities, and we commend the legislature for passing this bill. But it will take a concerted effort to crack down on gun violence, and we hope that leaders in Harrisburg will stay the course and continue to fight for common-sense bills that keep guns out of the wrong hands.

Henry was a “straw purchaser” – a person who buys guns and sells them to criminals who are not allowed to own them. Henry bought nine guns and sold them to Officer Fox’s killer, a convicted felon who could not have passed the gun background check himself.

One local legislator is introducing the Brad Fox Law, which would require a five-year prison sentence for repeated straw purchaser offenders. The mayors also want a law requiring handgun owners to notify law enforcement within three days if their firearm is lost or stolen.
