Elderly man shoots at intruders

An elderly man fired multiple rounds at three intruders after he walked in to find the men burglarizing his Apple Valley property Thursday night.

“One of the guys moved toward me, so I put one right by his ear,” the homeowner, who declined to be identified out of fear of retaliation, said Friday. “Another guy came running down the hall and I fired three shots at him.”

The man doesn’t believe any of the intruders were struck by the bullets.

The thieves all got away and he said no one had been arrested as of Friday. Sheriff’s officials didn’t return requests to discuss the incident.

The man owns a few rental properties in town, including one that’s a block south of the Tao Road fire station off Highway 18.

When the man went by his property Thursday morning, he found the door had been kicked in and the house had been burglarized. The thieves had apparently used a crowbar to open a locked gun case, making off with “lots” of weapons, the man said.
