A Cleveland homeowner shot a suspect breaking into his home early Monday morning

The Cleveland Police department is currently investigating an aggravated burglary where the homeowner shot and held the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived.

Police say the incident happened around 8:49 a.m. Monday when police dispatch received a call from the homeowner who said he shot a male that broke into his home in the 5700 block of Portage Avenue.

Once on scene Third District Officers were met by the homeowner who was holding the suspect at gunpoint.

The homeowner informed the officers that he shot the suspect and the suspect he was found to have gunshot wounds to his cheek and right arm.

EMS was notified, responded to the scene and conveyed the suspect to MetroHealth Medical Center, where he is being treated for his injuries.

Preliminary investigation reveals that suspect broke into the victim’s home, the victim confronted the suspect and attempted to hit the victim with a lamp, then shot the suspect and called police.

The matter remains under investigation.
