A man was killed and a woman wounded when a homeowner opened fire on two intruders early Friday in Maple Valley.

Sgt. Cindi West of the King County Sheriff’s Office said the homeowner called 911 about 4 a.m. to report intruders were trying to break into a cargo container on his property. West said the line went dead and the man called back a short time later and said he had shot the intruders.

The man who was shot died at the scene and the woman who was wounded was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

West said the 66-year-old property owner had called police five times in recent weeks to report intruders on his property in 23200 block of 212th Avenue Southeast.

The property owner was questioned and has been released as the investigation proceeds. Detectives have recommended charging the injured woman with burglary.

The name of the man who was killed has not been released.
