Gun rights advocates swamp Capitol

by Jimmy Vielkind, Times Union  |  published on March 1, 2013

A Second Amendment rights rally is in full gear at the Capitol. Thousands of people are gathered in West Capitol Park and at the Capitol.

State Police estimated the crowd at over 5,000 as of 1 p.m.

The protest began early: “Cuomo’s gotta go!” The crowd chanted beginning around 10:15 a.m.

In addition to the people in the park, more people lined up to enter the Capitol on the Empire State Plaza concourse stretches back to the Egg. People are holding signs denouncing Gov. Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat who pushed for the gun control bill that is the subject of the protest.

Extra State Police troopers have been brought in to manage the crowd.
